Redfin Metro Real Estate Data

  • There are several tabs/visuals of data- they are just configured differently for more insight.

  • The first 5 tabs/visuals are meant for analyzing various metrics for INDIVIDUAL metros.

  • Ensure you are only selecting one metro at a time when using visuals 1-5; also, only select one property type for visuals 1, 5, 6 & 7.

  • Visual 6 is meant to compare metrics across metros- hold down ctrl to select multiple areas at a time.

  • Like visual 6, 7 compares metrics across markets in a tabulated form rather than a chart. Simply select the respective column to arrange the data in ascending or descending order. Currently tab 7 data is comparing metrics for the most recent month across all metros as evidenced by the callout value in the top right hand corner (3/1/25). If you do not select a single month, the callout value field automatically populates with the earliest month in the time series (1/1/12).

  • Each chart within a visual contains zoom features on both the x & y axis depicted as a black line with white circles on each end- it’s often useful in small metros with fewer transactions where the data is just more volatile; or when there are multiple data points on a single chart. There is also a time series filter at the bottom of each respective visual which controls the x axis for ALL charts.

  • Most of the data goes back to January 2012, but that’s not always the case for certain areas.

MSA Labor Data

Below are employment/unemployment/labor force data for MSAs which comes from the Local Area Unemployment Statistics (LAUS) produced by the BLS. Think of this data as the household survey in terms of methodology.

There are a total of 6 visuals which simply configure that information several different ways. These are the most recent numbers thru February of 2025.
